National Virtual Bowling League Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How did this league come about?

A. Last year I was in charge of conducting sports activities for students who were enrolled in the Arizona Virtual Academy (a K12.com school).  Since the school is a virtual academy and students are scattered all around the state, I tried to come up with sports that would be easy to implement, not need a lot of school owned facilities or equipment and fun for the students.  Bowling is a sport that fits those criteria.  But I still had the issue of students being scattered all over the state.  So I created the league so the kids could bowl anywhere in the state and still have the opportunity to compete against other AZVA students.  We have since expanded the league to allow anyone to participate.  So invite your friends and family to bowl with you.

Q. When does the league start?

A. The league begins the week of July 6th and runs for 4 consecutive weeks through August 1st.

Q. Who is eligible to join the league?

A. The original National Virtual Bowling League (NVBL) was create to promote sports activities and social interaction for students schooled at home. However, the Summer League is open to everyone.

Q. Can my uncle's mother's sister's friend's neighbor join?

A. Yes, invite all your family and friends to join with you.  Anyone who has a bowling alley near enough to get to each week can join.

Q. How much does it cost to join the league?

A. There is a $5 registration fee for each participant.  You must pay the registration fee to have your scores posted and to qualify for the awards.  You can click here to pay.

Q. How can I pay my registration fee?

A. You can send a check or money order or you can pay with a PayPal account.  PayPal also has an option to pay using a credit card.  Click here to pay now.

Q. I attend a K12.com Virtual School.  Do I still have to pay a fee?

A. Each participant is required to pay a $5 registration fee.  The K12.com schools are not covering student fees for the summer league, so you will be responsible to pay your own registration fee.

Q. How do I register? Can I just send you my information in an email?

A. You MUST register for the league by using the online form. The form is easy to fill out and only takes a short amount of time to complete.  You can find the form on the Registration Page.

Q. Where do I post my scores each week?  Do I just email them to you?

A. You MUST post your scores each week by using the online form.  The form helps me sort through the information more quickly.   You can find the form on the Scores Page.

Q. How many games am I supposed to bowl each week?

A. That depends on which division you are in.  Ages 5, and 6-8 bowl 1 game per week.  All the other division bowl 2 games per week.

Q. What if I miss a week?

A. If you miss bowling one week, you will be allowed to make up the games the following week.   Scores will not be allowed more than one week late.

Q. Where do we bowl each week?  Is there a particular bowling alley we need to go to?

A. There is not a set location since this is a national virtual league.  Each person can bowl at any bowling alley anywhere in the country.  That's the beauty of this league.  Anyone who can get to a bowling alley is able to participate even if you are on vacation or away from home.  I would encourage you to get together with friends or family to make your bowling outings even more enjoyable, but you can go on your own too.

Q. Do I have to bowl on a particular day or at any specific time?

A. The league is broken into 4 weeks.  Each week starts on Monday and ends on Saturday.  You can bowl anytime during that week just as long as you submit your scores by Saturday evening at midnight.

Q. Can I bowl more than 2 games a week?

A. Certainly.  I would encourage you to bowl as often as possible to develop your skills.  But, you can only report 2 scores per week for your league scores.  If you do bowl more than 2 games, you must designate BEFORE you bowl which games are the 2 league games.  You can't just pick the best scores each week and post them as your NVBL scores.

Q. What if I bowl in a local league?  Can I still bowl in this league?

A. Yes.  You can either designate 2 of your league games as NVBL games before you bowl them or you can bowl 2 separate games for your NVBL games.

Q. Can I bowl my games on the Nintendo Wii?

A. Sorry, even though the league is a virtual league, the bowling is real.  You must bowl your games at an actual bowling alley.

Q. Do I compete against kids my own age or does everyone compete against everyone else?

A. The league is divided into Division according to age.  You only compete against others in the same age division as yourself.  Please refer to the Rules Page for more details.

Q. What awards are there?

A. There are awards for National and State Champions.  Please refer to the Rules Page for more details.
